EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

Essential Qualifications/Experience:

·         In addition to at least 5 years recent post-related experience, the incumbent will possess:

·         3+ years of experience with Linux RHEL servers and Ubuntu Workstation, and in designing, deploying, and maintaining Linux-based (virtualized) infrastructure

·         Hands-on experience with the fundamentals of Linux scripting languages

·         Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining services such as Bind, Apache, MySQL, LDAP, anti-malware solutions etc.

·         Proven experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware

·         Experience integrating Linux services into a Windows based environment using Centrify including authentication, resource sharing, and configuration management tools

·         Practical experience in diagnosing deficiencies in networks and associated equipment

·         Demonstrated ability to be timely and agile in a dynamic environment

·         Service-minded attitude with a strong interest in working directly with users

·         Working experience with administration of: LDAP, SELx, Apache, Bind, Anti-Malware solutions, Repos, Bash, IPA authentication

·         Demonstrated proficiency in English as defined in STANAG 6001 (Standardized Linguistic Profile (SLP) (Written and Oral). NATO: 3333

 

Desirable Qualifications/Experience:

·         Familiarity with load balancing, firewalls, etc.

·         Strong grasp on configuration management tools, such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef

·         Ability to identify project/program needs and develop strong technical, innovative solutions for addressing use of existing and future computing resources

·         Proven experience leading projects in an administrator role

·         Experience implementing security controls. (e.g. NCSC, NIST SP-800, ISO 27001)

·         Any of the following certifications: CompTIA Linux+, RHCA, RHCE, VCP, Dell, CompTIA Security+.

·         Experience with any of the following technologies: Cisco Networking, EMC SAN

·         Prior experience of working in an international environment comprising both military and civilian elements

·         Ability to gather information from monitoring tools and analyse problems and application performance issues

·         Proficient in Centrify management from agents on Linux to Management on Windows (Centrify training course should be a must)

·         Powershell scripting for management of Centrify automation

·         Extensive shell scripting for automation of Linux process such as full post-install, agent installation, repository management

·         Experience with GIT - all code is managed and stored in GIT

 

DUTIES/ROLE: 

·         Executes standard operational procedures, including infrastructure configuration, installation, and maintenance. Uses infrastructure management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics, and to automate the provisioning, testing, and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Contributes to the implementation of maintenance and installation work. Uses standard procedures and tools to perform system backups or data restorations, when necessary. Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution

·         Reviews system software updates and identifies those that merit action. Tailors system software to maximise hardware functionality. Installs and tests new versions of system software. Investigates and coordinates the resolution of potential and actual service problems. Prepares and maintains operational documentation for system software. Advises on the correct and effective use of system software

·         Execute the day-to-day System Administration (SA) of the Hardware (HW) and Software (SW) of the currently fielded versions of Linux-based servers (Redhat) and desktops (Ubuntu) and integrate with Active Directory Services (Domain Controller, Group and Security Policies, DNS, Trust Relationships and the like), as well as the DNS and DHCP services

·         Develop scripts to automate system administration processes

·         Assist in the execution of release management plans that include rollout and rollback procedures. Execute proper preventive maintenance plans

·         Assist in the preparation of all technical- and service-oriented documentation pertaining to assigned systems, interconnections, supporting cable plant etc.

·         Provide 2nd line system administration support at the Centre and to deployed installations (e.g. Centre Research Vessels)

·         Coordinate closely with the Service Desk to maximize the efficiency between 1st and 2nd line support including on-the-job training of 1st line support personnel

·         Proactively monitor the assigned systems and report in case of performance degradation or downtime. Generate availability reports and statistics to ensure full service provisioning visibility. Advise management on corrective action or procurement action required to correct detected weaknesses in system performance

·         Remain up-to-date in IT technology and trends from an end-user perspective enabling state-of-the-art support to a scientific workforce

·         May be required to perform other related duties
